Verrry interesting. Are you trying to say that our straight shooting president makes stuff up? Can’t you get kicked out of the state for something like that? In California, however, pointing out something like this wouldn’t even move you out of the conservative camp.

Sorry for being off topic, but to continue our discussion of liberal media…

"Britain’s Blair Suffers Parliament Revolt Over Iraq"–Reuters

"Blair Suffers Huge Revolt on Iraq"–CNN

"Revolt of the Backbenchers: Blair suffers biggest rebellion as 121 Labour MPs vote against war"–Independent

    "Rebel Vote Stuns Blair"–Guardian

You’d never guess from these headlines that lawmakers by a vote of 434-124 approved a government-sponsored motion which backed the prime minister’s efforts to resolve the crisis through the United Nations and called on Iraq ‘to recognize this as its final opportunity’ to disarm," the Associated Press reports from London. Another motion, stating that "the case for military action against Iraq [is] as yet unproven," was voted down, 393-199.

Blair won these votes with the support of 77.8% and 66.4% of parliamentarians, respectively.

    Liberalism or Sensationalism?

  3. Lopey says:

I think the issue that they’re trying to refer to is not a revolt of the entire house, but more accurately a revolt of Blair’s own Labour party, the one’s who are supposed to vote with him.

Yes, it’s very misleading and doesn’t capture the story at all. However, why did all of the stories have the same-sounding headline?

That’s when the question of sensationalism comes in. "Revolt" is an eye-catcher, while "Blair gains support from 4/5 of lawmakers for resolution of Iraq through U.N." just doesn’t have that same ring… 🙂

"Bush’s Muslim propaganda chief quits" — CNN

    Another sensationalism 🙂

  5. DeRigeur says:

I was thinking about that whole "senationalism vs liberalism" thing over the Spring Break, and it occurred to me that…

Churches really, really want to catch your attention, and some of them put up slogans or catchy (usually pithy) phrases on their signs to assist in this. Why is it, then, that we never see them say, "Jesus sux!" or "Church is a load of crap!"? While that would be sensational, it goes against their message. Therefore, I’d suggest that media that are willing to be sensationalist anti-conservative, but not sensationalist anti-liberal show their underlying message, as well.

Reuters lumps suicide bombers as having been killed by Israel.
